Puzzle guide to NeoHunter, by Evil Mr Henry. Version 1.0 Posted Oct 23, 2007 In some missions, the shooting action is broken up by small puzzles. These puzzles are not explained very clearly within the game, so this guide was written to provide more information. You'll want to practice these puzzles in your apartment before running into them on the street. 1) Spectrum Analyzer 2) DNA Splicer 3) DNA Decoder 4) NetRunner 5) Shooting Tip 6) Legal Stuff and Contact 1) Spectrum Analyzer: Get the beam from the start to the finish spot, with the right color, width, and intensity. At no point can you have a width or intensity outside of the range 1 through 5. If you do, the beam fails at that point. At the top of the field are buttons to scroll the playfield, help, rotate a piece, and flip a piece. To the right is your piece toolbox. The pieces work as follows: Splitter: Takes a beam, and splits it into the component colors. All output beams will have the incoming beam's intensity and width. Note that this doesn't just work on white beams. If you've used an integrator, this will re-split the colors; if the incoming beam is of a single color, it will act as a lossless bouncer. Integrator: Takes the input beams, and combines the colors. The math is weird on this one; I think the widths are added, and the intensity averaged, but I'm not quite sure on that. This is also the only way to get a width 3 beam. Just combine a width 1 and a width 2 beam. (Either run a single color through a divider, or integrate two colors, then split them with a splitter.) Bouncer: Takes an input, and redirects it 90 degrees, decreasing the intensity by 1 in the process. You may be able to substitute a splitter or integrator if you can't afford the loss of intensity. Divider: Takes an input, and splits the intensity over two output beams, keeping the width the same. Focus: Increases the intensity of the beam by 1, while halving the width. Intensifier: Increases the intensity by 3, and rotates the beam 90 degrees. Shield: Blocks all light. Dimmer: Decreases the intensity by 1. Difuser: Decreases the intensity by 1, while doubling the width. 2) DNA Splicer: You need to drop all segments of DNA into the incomplete helix at the top of the screen. Note that there is a handle to move the lighted portion of the helix from left to right under the lighted portion. As you can only drop DNA in the lighted portion, this is important. Also note that you can rotate and flip the DNA pieces by clicking on them. Four clicks will bring you through all four possible orientations. 3) DNA Decoder: A tricky one, mostly due to the integrity loss for each check. The basic rules are to place a string of DNA characters (located on the lower part of the string) on the strand (in the middle of the screen), then hit the check button to see if the entire string is valid. If it is, it stays on the upper screen. If not, it flashes red. You want the entire missing segment to be repaired. Now, the trick here is that the checking is done per string. If you just dump all the characters in there (for example: ACCBCABCDDD), it will just flash red, giving no useful information. However, if you place one character, an empty space, then another character (etc.), then each character is checked individually (for example: A C A D A D). In this case, some of the characters will usually be correct, and you can replace the characters that are not with different characters, and recheck. 4) NetRunner: You need to find the exit to the next level, until you complete all security levels. Stay away from security programs. The red border around a space is the difficulty of the node, and reflects the amount of time you will be trapped in that node. The upper tool appears to slow down security programs, though it appears to be one-use. The lower tool allows you to skip taking over a node, but the red border will remain for the next time you reach the node. 5) Shooting Tip: One final tip for the shooting stages. If you are zoomed in on an enemy, (shooting at them once will usually do the trick) you will only be attacked by enemies that you can see. This can be used to restore your shields and stunner power. 6) Legal Stuff and Contact: This guide is under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0.
